H-E-B, HEB, Mid-Cities, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Lots of names explained

It is amazing how many names you can hear for this little section of land nestled between Dallas and Fort Worth.  The City of Hurst, City of Euless, and City of Bedford all border each other and are immediately West of DFW airport and extend to the outskirts of Loop 820.  Since the three cities have such a perfect location in the Middle of Dallas and Fort Worth, many business have nicknamed them the Mid-Cities.  All three cities share a common School District know as H-E-B.  H-E-B School District is one of the finest school districts in the state and in 2007 was named the 4th best School District in the state.  I have the official News Release at the bottom of this page.  The location of these cities is perfect for so many when it comes to drive time to their place of employment.  Home Prices are very reasonable with most homes under $350,000.  The majority of homes are between $150,000 and $225,000.  I, personally live in Rustic Woods of Bedford  right at the edje of Euless, and previously lived in Hurst.

HEB Named to State's Top Four Districts

(Link to charts at end of news release)

Education Resource Group (ERG), a company that annually examines the student performance and operating efficiency of the 200 largest Texas public school districts, has named the HEB ISD as one of top four school districts in the state, based on 2006 test data.

ERG analyzes the 200 largest districts, which enroll 83 percent of the students who attend Texas public schools. The ERG analysis measures the relationship between operating expenditures and student achievement. Based on their most recent analysis, HEB ISD was among four school districts in Texas to receive top honors.

HEB ISD was named what Education Resource Group designates as a “Best Practices” district. Superintendent Dr. Gene Buinger said this honor means the district is serving students, parents, and the greater HEB community.

“The combination of strong student performance and overall operating efficiency means that HEB ISD is giving parents and taxpayers the most bang for the buck,” Buinger said.

HEB ISD shares “Best Practices” status with Richardson ISD, the only other Metroplex district to be named to the top four. The other two districts are Angleton ISD, in the greater Houston area, and Eagle Pass ISD, located southwest of San Antonio, on the Texas-Mexico border.

ERG uses academic, demographic, staffing, and financial data to determine “Best Practices” districts. They use an Academic Performance Index that includes TAKS pass rate; graduation rates; SAT mean scores; and ACT mean scores.

The company uses financial data to measure operating costs in relation to student demographics. The financial data make adjustments for regional cost differences in Texas.

ERG uses an accountability matrix to determine school district rankings across the largest 200 districts. There are four levels in the Academic Performance Index and four levels in Operating Efficiency. Level One in each area results in the highest rankings.

HEB ISD has achieved a Level One in academics and in finance, along with the other three districts in Texas named to the top four.
