Carroll ISD, the town's public schools are very well regarded. With an average of 18 students per teacher at both the elementary and secondary levels, the Southlake school district greatly exceeds the national average. The schools report higher test scores and graduation rates largely because of the extra attention that teachers are able to give their students. The district has been awarded seven consecutive awards from the Texas Education Agency for its exemplary standing in the state.

The community is additionally served by the presence of several major colleges and universities. Irving, Texas, which is about thirteen miles away from Southlake, offers North Lake College and the University of Dallas. Approximately sixteen miles from town is the University of Texas at Arlington. And in the Fort Worth area, also just sixteen miles from Southlake, you will find Texas Christian University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Texas Wesleyan University.

Southlake offers year round activities for its residents. Throughout the summer, families gather in the Town Square for free music concerts every Saturday evening. Each Thursday night, the Town Square is the screening spot for popular G-rated movies under the stars. From newer releases like Finding Nemo to classics like the Swiss Family Robinson, the whole family will enjoy this outing. And several times throughout the year, the Tarrant Area Guild of Storytellers presents an old-fashioned program of telling tales in the twilight.

Southlake offers plenty of physical activities to keep residents fit and healthy. The Parks and Recreation Department organizes both youth and adult league play. This is a great opportunity to hone your skills at a sport or learn to play a new one. From baseball, soccer, volleyball and football to in-line hockey, lacrosse, and softball, a Southlake resident can explore a sport for every taste. As in the rest of the country, golf is an immensely popular activity. Taking into account Southlake's desirable location to Dallas-Fort Worth, Arlington, and Irving, golfers can choose from nearly fifty public and private courses to play.

Southlake, Texas is a thriving town, with a focus on family and community activities. It has easy access to several major metropolitan cities, but maintains its own unique small town feel.
